The temple itself is wonderful to contemplate, but part of the fun of visiting it is the approach to the temple along the steep and busy lanes of the atmospheric Higashiyama. The myriad little shops seething with tourists and pilgrims fill the air with exotic sights sounds and smells. Check in at hotel for 4 nights.

DAY 10 KYOTO Tue 07 NOV

Today, enjoy visiting Zen temple Daitokuji, one of the largest in Japan. Ryūhōzan Daitoku-ji is the head temple of the Daitoku school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. This vast temple complex is made of 24 subtemples covering 23 hectares, forming a small village of its own. The karesansui, or dry rock gardens, at Daisen-in are some of the best in Japan. We also visit The Silver pavilion Ginkakuji, a Rinzai Zen temple in north-east Kyoto. Ginkakuji Temple is perhaps the pinnacle of the kind of Japanese aesthetic known as wabi sabi, typified by restraint, elegance and a sense of transience. Afternoon is at leisure.
