Tours include strolls through exotic locations in Kyoto familiar to many travellers from movies such as “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Stroll through inspiring bamboo forests and visit famous gardens to enjoy the seasonal beauty of Japan and get a feel for the real Japan by staying in an historic Onsen (hot spring) village ryokan. Visit a world heritage listed village in the countryside for a truly unique experience.

Day 1 SYDNEY – TOKYO Sat 17 OCT

Arrive at Tokyo airport and transfer to hotel in Tokyo.
Check in for 3 nights.

Day 2 TOKYO Sun 18 OCT

Sightseeing tour of Tokyo including, Tokyo observation deck, Asakusa temple and stroll down the colourful Nakamise shopping arcade. Lunch at local restaurant. Welcome dinner.

Day 3 TOKYO – MT. FUJI & HAKONE – TOKYO Mon 19 OCT

Travel to Mt. Fuji & Hakone region and enjoy picturesque Hakone including the Lake Ashi cruise and ropeway. Lunch at local restaurant by the lakeside. Return to Tokyo.

Day 4 TOKYO – KYOTO Tue 20 OCT

Travel on to Kyoto by Bullet train. Afternoon, visit Kiyomizu temple overlooking the city. Part of the fun of visiting Kiyomizu temple is the approach to the temple along the steep and busy lanes of the atmospheric Higashiyama.
Optional activity 1: 6:00 pm Japanese traditional style dinner with Geisha performance. Lifetime Experience not to miss!

Day 5 KYOTO Wed 21 OCT

First time with Dreams tour: Early morning, visit a Temple flea market with over 1000 stores including antiques, kimonos, prints, and interesting local hot snack foods. Continue on to Fushimi Inari, which is one of the impressive shrines in Kyoto, dedicated to Inari, the god of rice and prosperity. Thousands of wooden torii gateways and a lot of small shrines and stone monuments-foxes. return to hotel. Then on to South-west Kyoto Sagano region for a taste of the Kyoto countryside, bamboo forest walkway and specialty handicraft shops.

Day 6 KYOTO – NARA Thu 22 OCT

Full day sightseeing tour of Kyoto & Nara. Visiting Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle. Afternoon, travel to Nara, the ancient capital of Japan and visit Todaiji temple, Nara deer park. Late afternoon, return to hotel.

Day 7 KYOTO – KURASHIKI – OKAYAMA Fri 23 OCT

Today, we travel to Okayama. Afternoon, travel to Kurashiki a well preserved Edo period mercantile town. Enjoy a stroll through this fascinating town. Stay in Okayama for 3 nights.

Day 8 OKAYAMA – HIROSHIMA – OKAYAMA Sat 24 OCT

Enjoy a day trip to Hiroshima Peace museum and Miyajima Island, a small island, famous for Itsukushima Shrine & The great floating Torii gate, symbol of Miyajima, officially one of Japan’s Top 3 Views and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Late afternoon return to Okayama.

Day 9 OKAYAMA – IYA VALLEY – TAKAMATSU – TAKAYAMA Sun 25 OCT

Cross inland sea, visit Takamatsu Ritsurin Park which is the largest of the national special scenic beauty gardens made up of 6 ponds and 13 hills beautifully arranged against the green pine trees as well as many stone arrangements that evolve into the wonderful style of the early Edo era. Afternoon, visit Iya Valley which is one of Japan’s three hidden valleys. Its tall peaks and deep gorges were historically a safe haven for the Heike Clan after their defeat by the rival Genji Clan during civil wars of the 12th century.

DAY 10 OKAYAMA – KANAZAWA Mon 26 OCT

Check out from hotel. Morning, travel on to samurai town Kanazawa. Enjoy Kanazawa afternoon tour of old geisha district, Gold Leaf and famous Kutani Pottery workshops, the former samurai residential area and the Kenrokuen garden which is one of Japan’s most famous gardens. Check in for two nights.

DAY 11 KANAZAWA – TAKAYAMA- SHIRAKAWAGO – TAKAYAMA Tue 27 OCT

Travel to another old town Takayama whose isolation has allowed Edo period streets, lined with tiny shops, museums and eating places to survive to this day. Travel on to a small world heritage listed village, Shirakawago nestled in the mountains beside a pristine mountain river. Experience Washi (Japanese paper) making.

DAY 12 KANAZAWA – NOZAWA ONSEN VILLAGE New! Wed 28 OCT

Travel by New Hokuriku Line Bullet train to Nozawa, Nagano. Nozawa is a 370 years old authentic hot spring Onsen with a quaint village atmosphere. Afternoon at leisure. Japanese traditional dinner at hotel.

DAY 13 NOZAWA – TOKYO Thu 29 OCT

Morning at leisure. Afternoon, travel from Nozawa back to Tokyo. Check in at hotel for 2 nights.

DAY 14 TOKYO Fri 30 OCT

Day at leisure. Perhaps go to Ginza and Roppongi for window shopping, or to the electrical town of Akihabara. Your tour coordinator will help organise your activity. Full day Optional tour is available with English speaking guides.
Optional tour 3: Nikko
Enjoy visiting Nikko. The highlights of Nikko, including World Heritage Site Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the beautiful Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji. Enjoy experiencing the nature and long history of Nikko.

DAY 15 TOKYO – AUSTRALIA Sat 31 OCT

Enjoy your last day in Japan with some last minute souvenir hunting or some optional half day activity. Afternoon, leave hotel for Narita by airport bus. Depart for Australia.
