This tour has been designed to cover many of the most famous destinations in Japan, from the Northern island of Hokkaido to the Southern island of Okinawa. A fully escorted small tour over 21 days provides a wonderful opportunity to see Japan up close. The beauty and tranquillity of Hokkaido and its fascinating Ainu (Japanese aboriginal) culture; the rustic charm of Tohoku in Northern Honshu and a stay in a traditional Japanese room and in an old samurai town; the bustle and excitement of vibrant Tokyo and the cultured charm of the traditional capital Kyoto will provide a kaleidoscope of experiences.
Stroll through exotic locations in Kyoto familiar to many travellers from movies such as “Memoirs of a Geisha”.
Visit hidden places which other package tours do not offer. Visit majestic Mt. Fuji, old Nakasendo Tusmago village and Matsumoto city and its famous black castle. Poignant Hiroshima and the nearby beautiful floating shrine of Miyajima Island; the secluded island paradise of Okinawa (once a separate kingdom) and nearby Ishigaki Island.
Stay in Onsen resorts and experience a traditional Japanese onsen (hot spring bath). Mingle with the locals in morning markets and local shopping streets as they shop for their families. Perhaps make a private home visit to get a feel for everyday Japanese life (special Janesco offer). Wander through ancient streets, little changed over hundreds of years and then speed between cities on the world famous bullet train.

Arrive Tokyo/Narita, Travel on to Sapporo.
Transfer to hotel in Sapporo.

Day 2 OTARU Mon 28 SEP ’15

Visit Otaru, port town. The town’s nostalgic, old fashioned atmosphere is enhanced by its architecture and layout and its picturesque canal. Afternoon, visit Ainu (Japanese aborigine) outdoor museum to learn about their culture.

Day 3 SAPPORO – HAKODATE (1 night) Tue 29 SEP ’15

Travel from Sapporo to Hakodate by JR train along coastline of Southern Hokkaido. Afternoon, morning market, Motomachi town and its unique blend of Japanese and western architecture. Perhaps visit Mt. Hakodate for spectacular Hakodate and bay nightlights , ride Hakodate rope-way.

DAY 4 HAKODATE – OIRASE (1 night) Wed 30 SEP ’15

Morning, travel from Hakodate to Aomori by express train; Bus though Hakkodasan National park. Enjoy spectacular Oirase Gorge slow walk. Check in at luxury Oirase Keiryu hotel and enjoy Onsen hot spring resort stay and hot spring bath.

Morning transfer to Hachinohe station to board bullet train to travel for Tokyo. Check in at hotel in Tokyo for 3 nights.

Enjoy Tokyo walking tour including Asakusa temple, the colourful Nakamise shopping street, Meiji shrine and Harajuku Omotesando.

Day 7 MT. FUJI & HAKONE Sat 03 OCT ’15

Today, enjoy a full day tour to Mt. Fuji & Hakone . Enjoy a view of the famous Mt. Fuji and picturesque Hakone including the Lake Ashi cruise and ropeway. Evening return to Tokyo.

Day 8 New! TOKYO – MATSUMOTO (1 night) Sun 04 OCT ’15

This morning, travel to Matsumoto situated in the center of Nagano and known as the gateway to the Japan Alps’ climbing routes. Visit Matsumoto black castle which is one of four castles designated as ‘National Treasures of Japan’ and the oldest castle donjon remaining in Japan.

Travel to Tsumago, a town seldom visited by group tours, where cars are banned and signs of modernity such as power lines are hidden to maintain the old style ambience. After strolling along the old streets and soaking up the atmosphere, travel on to Nagoya and stay for 1 night.

DAY 10 TAKAYAMA – SHIRAKAWAGO – KANAZAWA

Travel by train to Takayama, whose isolation has allowed Edo period streets, lined with tiny shops, fork art museums and eating places, to survive to this day. Travel on to visit heritage listed village Shirakawago. Travel on to Kanazawa, an old samurai town.

DAY 11 KANAZAWA Wed 07 OCT ’15

Visit Kanazawa’s old geisha district Higashiyama, Gold Leaf craft work shop, Kutani pottery work shop, Kenrokuen garden, one of Japan’s most famous gardens and samurai residential area. Afternoon free at leisure.

DAY 12 KANAZAWA – KYOTO (3 nights) Thu 08 OCT ’15

Morning at leisure. Perhaps visit Omi local food market or the 21st Century Modern Art museum of Kanazawa. Afternoon, travel to Kyoto by train.

Kyoto sightseeing tour of the Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle. Afternoon, visit Kyomizu Temple overlooking the city. Enjoy the approach to the temple along busy lanes of the enchanting Higashiyama district – typical Kyoto life.

Morning, travel by a Bullet train to Hiroshima and Miyajima Island to enjoy the famous floating Itsukushima Shrine and Torii gate. Then on to the Peace Park to visit the atomic bomb Museum.

DAY 16 NAGASAKI – FUKUOKA (1 night) Mon 12 OCT ’15

Travel to Nagasaki, visit the home of Madame Butterfly, who inspired the famous opera by Puccini. Visit 100 year old Glover Mansion. Travel on to Imari pottery village. Check in at hotel at Luxury hotel at Fukuoka. Drinks and light meal at the hotel bar lounge.

DAY 17 FUKUOKA – NAHA, OKINAWA (1 night) Tue 13 OCT ’15

Transfer to Fukuoka airport to catch flight for Naha city. Upon arrival, enjoy tour of Naha, visiting Shuri castle, drive through main street Kokusai Dori, Enjoy famous Okinawa noodle lunch at Naha Public Market. Dinner at hotel.

Catch a flight from Naha to Ishigaki Island. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 19 ISHIGAKI IS. Thu 15 OCT ’15

Day at leisure. Ishigaki is a small village of traditional singlestoried houses, covered with red tiled roofs, surrounded by stone
walls, and guarded by lion-like shiza statues to ward of evil spirits. Kaiji Beach is known for its sand which is shaped like tiny stars. Perhaps enjoy water buffalo drawn cart tours, or visit some more little Islands, eg. Taketomi.

DAY 20 ISHIGAKI – TOKYO (1 night) Fri 16 OCT ’15

Transfer to Ishigaki airport to catch flight back to Tokyo. Remaining day at leisure, to kick back and relax or to fill with whatever interests you. Perhaps enjoy Ginza and Roppongi for window shopping, or the electric town of Akihabara. Your tour escort will help organise your activity. Farewell dinner at hotel.

Enjoy your last day in Japan with some last minute souvenir hunting or an optional half day activity. Perhaps follow your escort to Edo museum which is a facility to preserve the historical heritage of Edo-Tokyo. Late afternoon, leave hotel for Narita airport by bus, depart from
Narita.
