Day 2 Tokyo – Mt Fuji [No meal arrangement]
05:20 Arrive at Haneda/Tokyo airport, travel by coach to visit Mt. Fuji National Park including Mt. Fuji 5th Station, for a view of Mt. Fuji. Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano located just 90km South West of Tokyo, with a summit elevation of 3,776m. There is often a light dusting of snow on Mt. Fuji in November, which shows up the form of the mountain. Travel back to Tokyo and check in at Grand Nikko Hotel Daiba for 1 night

Day 3 Kyoto [B, D]
Today we travel to Kyoto by Bullet Train. Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan and home to the finest art, crafts and culture in the country. It is home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Cultural sites and today, as we take a Kyoto sightseeing tour, we visit two of the most stunning-the Golden Pavilion (Kinkakuji) Kinkakuji is a beautiful Zen temple, once the retirement villa of the Shogun Ashikaga in northern Kyoto, and whose top two storeys are completely covered in gold leaf, and Nijo castle (built in 1603AD) which was the Kyoto residence of the first Shogun, Tokugawa, and is one of the best surviving examples of feudal Japan’s castle palace architecture. Check in at Hotel Okura Kyoto for 2 nights. Dinner at hotel.
Accommodation: Hotel Okura Kyoto (5 star)
Day 4 Kyoto [B, L]
Early morning, we visit Kiyomizu Temple, nestled in a mountain to the east and overlooking the city. Part of the fun of visiting Kiyomizu temple is the approach to the temple along the steep and busy lanes of Kyoto’s old atmospheric Higashiyama district, as you share the winding and narrow lanes with pilgrims and local Japanese tourists. After exploring the Kiyomizu region, we stroll back down the hill past hundreds of little shops lining the road up to the temple and the surrounding neighborhood. We also visit the garden of Heian Shrine (Heian-jingū), a prominent Shinto shrine established in 1895 to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the city’s founding as the ancient capital. It features a massive 24-meter vermilion torii gate, a 5/8 scale replica of the original Imperial Palace, and expansive, scenic gardens.
After a genuine tempura lunch the afternoon is free at leisure, perhaps to do a little shopping or just soak up the atmosphere.
Accommodation: Hotel Okura Kyoto or similar(5 star)
Day 5 Kyoto – Nara – Osaka [B]
This morning we travel to Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital (established in 710 CE), located in the Kansai region near Osaka and Kyoto. It is a premier destination for history lovers, renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the massive Todaiji Temple and sacred free-roaming deer in Nara Park. After taking in the majesty of what was for a thousand years the largest wooden structure in the world we travel on to Osaka. Now the 3rd largest city in Japan, Osaka has a long history as a mercantile centre stretching back thousands of years and is a vibrant, brash city which has become known in recent times as a culinary wonderland. We will be staying tonight in the heart of Osaka and this evening we will take an evening walk, escorted by our guide, around the coulourful and famous Dotonbori area and have the opportunity to try delicious local street foods. Dotonbori is the biggest “downtown” precinct in Osaka. Advertising displays such as a neon sculpture of a famous sweet, huge moving crab and octopus shaped boards, moving dolls and billboards shaped like animals battle for the attention of passers-by. Enjoy Osaka’s soul food Kushikatsu for dinner tonight at local restaurant.
Accommodation: Hotel Nikko Osaka or similar (4.5 star)
Day 6 Osaka – Hagi – Nagato/Yamaguchi [B – D]
After a leisurely breakfast, we travel to another gem, a well-preserved Edo period castle town, Hagi on the coast of the Sea of Japan in Yamaguchi prefecture. The town is renowned for a type of pottery that bears its name, Hagi ware (Hagi yaki), prized for use in the Japanese tea ceremony and there are still active potters here who trace their potting families back 14-15 generations. Although Hagi Castle was demolished during the modernisation zeal of the Meiji Restoration in 1874, the village retains its historic feel in the layout of its streets, unchanged since the Edo Period and a district of lovingly preserved samurai residences and white-walled streets lined with orange trees. Explore some of the best-preserved traditional samurai residences remaining, including the extensive Kikuya Residence and its gorgeous rock garden in this World Heritage listed site. The beautiful “summer oranges” that hang over the walls of this castle town area are iconic symbols of Hagi. Stroll through the former Hagi samurai residential area. Pop into the Hagi yaki pottery shops or souvenir stores selling local Hagi summer-orange sweets as you walk. Check in and relax at Michelin Key Onsen Ryokan Otanisanso, for 1 night. Perhaps take a dip in Onsen bath before formal Kaiseki banquet dinner
Accommodation: Otanisanso Nagato Onsen (5 star)
Day 7 Nagato/Yamaguchi – Miyajima – Hiroshima – Nagoya [B]
This morning, we travel to Miyajima Island in The Inland Sea, to enjoy sightseeing around the Sacred Goddess Miyajima Floating Shrine and the world famous Torii gate. The shrine itself is built over the water on pylons, to give the impression of floating on the water. As with many other structures in Japan it has been rebuilt after storm or fire damage many times and in fact this constant renewal is characteristic of the Japanese psyche. The image of the large bright vermilion Torii gate at high tide against the mountain behind is one of the best known in Japan. Midafternoon, we will be transferred to Hiroshima, visiting the Peace Memorial Park and the poignant Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The museum is dedicated to those who lost their lives or loved ones to the atomic bomb and has displays on life before and after the bomb. We leave Hiroshima for Nagoya, the gateway to the Japan Alps, by Bullet Train. Check in at Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel for 1 night. Accommodation: Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel or similar
Accommodation: Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel (4.5~5 star)
Day 8 Nagoya – Tsumago & Magome – Nagoya – Tokyo [B,D]
Today we head out by train for the enchanting Kiso Valley where we will visit two historic and picturesque post towns, Magome & Tsumago. Magome is a quaint village meandering down the side of a mountain, providing beautiful views as we wander through the town. Tsumago is another small town seldom visited by group tours and where cars are banned and signs of modernity such as power lines are hidden to maintain the old-style ambiance. There were once 69 post towns along the Nakasendo trade route from Tokyo to Kyoto during samurai times and these are two of the best preserved. We travel back to Tokyo and check in at Imperial Hotel Tokyo for 2 nights.
We gather again in the evening at the Aqua Lounge for farewell drinks and supper
